'Chinese Rice Paper' plant native to Taiwan. An essential addition to any exotic garden if you like big leaves, which can reach 1m+. Eventual height up to 5m. Deciduous.
Care requirements: plant in full sun or partial shade, in a free-draining soil and a sheltered location. It is perfectly normal for this plant to defoliate when the first frost hits.
N.B. the upper stem and petioles are covered in indumentum (beige powder), which can be an irritant. It is therefore advisable, if pruning, to protect your face while doing so, as it can be a lung irritant to some people.
If purchasing a small plant it is advisable to overwinter in a sheltered location during its first winter. Do not let the soil dry out during this period - keep only very slightly damp if it defoliates.
